Geek Christmas Movies

Only a day more to go before it is finally Christmas eve again and time to watch some Geek Christmas Movies.
I hope everyone will have a great time whether they are celebrating it with loved ones or in a marathon session of playing videogames. But whatever you do, there probably will be time when you just want to sit back and relax with a nice film.

Throughout the years there have been many films that became really popular during the holiday season. I mean who hasn’t heard of titles like Home Alone, Scrooged, Miracle on 34th Street and more. But there are so many of them these days and it is easy to forget about some of them.
So here are some of my recommendation for Geek Christmas Movies.

Geek Christmas Movies

Nightmare Before Christmas
A beautiful stop-motion animation from Tim Burton that is a real Christmas (and Halloween) classic.  This film is a really good choice for the Holidays and not only has a very unique style, but also features a lot of songs that since have become classics.
Summary: It tells a tale of Jack Skellington who is inspired after seeing Christmas town. He comes up with an idea to bring the celebrations to Halloween town, but things don’t go exactly according to plan.

Die Hard
There are those who think Die Hard is a Christmas film and than there are others that are wrong. Some see it as a simple Bruce Willis action film but it is so much more. It has action, humour and a lot of stuff that became iconic in the action genre. The story takes place at Christmas eve and throughout the film several references are made to Christmas celebrations. So that makes it count 😉
Summary: John McClane, officer of the NYPD goes to LA for a Christmas reunion with his wife Holly Gennaro. While the Christmas celebration are in full swing at Nakatomi Plaza, she and her co-workers are being taken hostage. Now it is up to John to save the hostages and kick some ass.

Gremlins 1 & 2
When I was a little girl these movies were supposed to be really scary. But to be honest I thought they were just really cool and exciting to watch. Even after all these years they still have a warm place in my heart and I have seen them often with my brother after a Christmas dinner.
Also Mogwai are just too cute.
Summary: Billy Pelzer gets a pet as Christmas gift from his father. While the pet is adorable it comes with three rules that need to be followed. It comes as no surprise that these are quickly broken and both the boy and the small town are in for a not so fun night.

Tokyo Godfathers
This is another real Christmas film to me and I watch it almost every year. Not only has it a good story and nice animations, it also features a bunch of characters that for me makes this a much beloved and memorable film. I can’t recommend this one enough.
Summary from wikipedia: One Christmas Eve three people, a middle-aged alcoholic named Gin, a trans woman and former drag queen Hana, and a dependent runaway girl Miyuki, discover an abandoned newborn while looking through the garbage. Deposited with the unnamed baby is a note asking the finder to take good care of her and a bag containing clues to the parent’s identity. The trio sets out to find the baby’s parents.

Lord of the Rings
And last but not least is this classic film. There are plenty of people that use either the second day of Christmas (or Bank Holiday) to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And I can’t blame them as even so many years later it remains an epic film that is worth a re-watch. And for many fans this has become a Holiday film as it one of the few times that they can kick back and watch them all three in one go.
Summary: A hobbit and his eight companion form the Fellowship of the ring. In order to save their world from destruction they need to go on a dangerous journey to destroy the One Ring in Mount Doom. Only by doing that can they break the power of the Dark lord Sauron.

Enjoy your holidays and I hope everyone has a great time!
